Western Springs

Western Springs is a picturesque town complete with tree-lined streets, a thriving, quaint downtown area and a great sense of community from residents who take pride in home ownership.  Downtown Western Springs will bring you back in time.  Every time I walk into True Value Hardware I feel like I’m a boy again and should have my father by side.  The local town favorite ice cream shop is Oberweis.  Trendy hot new restaurants are popping up all the time like Devanti Enoteca and Vie.

Western Springs is entirely in Cook County and is divided into seven basic neighborhoods – Old Town, Field Park, Old Town South, Ridge Acres, Forest Hills, Springdale and Ridgewood.  Some offer in-town, walk-to convenience, while others offer larger “estate” lots with amazing street presence.

In 2007, Business Week listed Western Springs second in a list of the 50 best places to raise children. The rankings were based on five factors, including school test scores, cost of living, recreational and cultural activities, number of schools and risk of crime.  I think they should come back, because things have only gotten better!

Burlington Northern commuter trains stop in town frequently, and offer fast and easy transportation into the city. Drivers have in-town access to the Tollway (I-294), which connects with two major expressways (I-55 and I-290). Bus service is available to both train stops in adjacent LaGrange. Rail commute time to the Chicago Loop is about 30 minutes.

District 101 includes three elementary and one junior high school. Lyons Township High School, District 204, serves Western Springs and surrounding communities with a comprehensive curriculum designed to promote learning for all students, including handicapped and gifted children. ACT scores are consistently above average.

Small area shops sit on the outskirts of Tower Green in the heart of Western Springs. Oakbrook and Yorktown shopping centers are both located nearby.
